Science Festival – Catalyst

As a Sculptor knows how to create an idol out of a mere piece of stone, we as an Institution know how to bring out the hidden talents out of our scholars.

Catalyst, Science Festival of YS Schools, is an initiative taken for the practical application of the class room teaching where students are to prepare and present various models from Science, Social Science, Maths, English, and Art n Craft etc. to showcase and enhance their level of learning.

This year, Mr. Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa (MP) was the Chief Guest of this occasion. His presence really encouraged our scholars. He was all praises for the students for the conceptual clarity, for the teachers imparting education in a practical way and for the management to have the vision to conceptualize and organize such an event.

More than 1400 Young Scholars of both YS School Barnala and YS Public School Handiaya exhibited around 700 models of various fields during Catalyst. One important and appreciable observation was that all the models were prepared by students themselves, from the topics/concepts that they are learning in their classrooms, using very ordinary and daily usable articles like CDs, cardboards, plastic bottles etc. According to an estimate more than 10000 people visited the festival and all the guests and visitors who were present there were highly impressed with the models created by the students and appreciated the students for their hard work and level of understanding of concepts.

We are certain that in this modern world, academics alone cannot serve as quality education, as confidence, communication skills and personality have taken a very important and imperative role in shaping one’s career. And event of such a magnitude is certainly beneficial in polishing communication skills and boosting confidence of the students.

Laser Show

YS has always been pioneer in taking new initiatives. This time, sought after, Laser Show was held in YS Auditorium. It was the main highlight of the function. A team was called from Bangalore. It was for the first time such a show has been organized in the area and all the features of YS were shown in 3D way through colorful lasers. The light beams with different intensity and color were looking too different and everybody was so excited to see the show and it was talk of the town for months.

Robotics Mania

The motive of the school is to provide exposure to the students of next generation technologies. The purpose of schooling is not only to impart what is known today but also to envision what is laying at a distance and train students for the same.

We believe in creating champions in almost every field and Robotics is one of them. There were so many Robots created by our young scholars in catalyst that they seem to be the creations of IIT professionals. The robots of humanoids, machines, animals etc were created. It was indeed a Mini Tech Fest.

Health & Fitness Zone

“A pale cobbler is better than a sick king.” And to accomplish this motive YS called a team of VLCC to guide the audiences for fitness and beauty.

Because in present scenario fitness & beauty are important part of our health. Audiences were given instructions about the care of health and body.

Cookery Show

“All sorrows are less with bread”. On the day of Catalyst 2013, a cookery show was also held for the parents as well as teachers to guide them how to pack the lunch boxes of children so that when they open their lunch boxes instead of being bored of routine eatable, they get exciting to take their lunch. For the same, the chefs were called from Chandigarh who told the audience to prepare dishes and drinks which are healthy, nourished as well as enjoyable. Parents were all praise for the show and urged the school authorities to have such shows more often.

Art & Craft

Creative mind has creative ideas. Through such Art and craft activities we judge students’ creativity. Many of the things were made from the waste material.

They worked for entire month and even art and craft workshops were organized by Pidilite in which different things were taught to them. This way we have tried to enhance their creative skills. Everybody was so happy to see their magnificent work.

Magic show

One more motive of YS is to keep the environment entertaining and sound. So in this way to entertain the audience, magic show was also organized. People as well as children enjoyed a lot in the magic show. The expert magician named Saggu Sarkar from Ludhiana showed very heart striking shows. His tasks got hold the minds of the audience. People really got very thrilling experience in the magic show.
